South Central Washington

Bounded to the North and East by two active volcanoes, Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams, to the South by the waters of the mighty Columbia flowing through the spectacular scenery of the Gorge, and to the East by Washington’s high desert country, South Central Washington is a “land between”; a place of change and transformation.

Here the scenery and the climate transition from the lush temperate vegetation of the West to a dry windy and more extreme climate that has shaped a picturesque landscape dominated by scrub Oak and tumbleweed. A major local feature, the Klickitat River, has carved its own canyon on the way to its rendezvous with the Mighty Columbia.
