Clark County in southwestern Washington State, is located directly across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon.

Much larger, originally, this was the first county of Washington State, named after William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It was created by the provisional government of the Oregon Territory on August 20, 1845.
