Pacific Northwest Volcanoes

1-20 of 23 images in this category.

Volcanoes have shaped the geography of the Pacific Northwest, from BC to Northern California, their activity resulting from the collision of tectonic plates underneath North America and the Pacific ocean. As the Juan de Fuca plate dives beneath the continental plate, some 70 miles offshore, it pushes hot magma up and through both submarine and inland volcanoes.

The Pacific Northwest is in the epicenter of some of the world's highest volcanic activity. On the positive side such activity produces memorable and highly photogenic landscapes. Feel free to review our collection.
