Located near the city of Portland, Oregon, and the northern Willamette River valley, Mt. Hood is one of the many active volcanoes of the Pacific "Rim of Fire."

Spread over more than one million acres the National Forest that surrounds Oregon's tallest mountain extends south from the scenic Columbia River Gorge and across endless miles of forested mountains lakes and streams to the slopes of Mt. Jefferson.

Mt. Hood is part of the Cascade Range Forest Reserve which was established in 1893, and divided into several National Forests in 1908.
