Heart of the Columbia Gorge

Heavenly patterns on the Westward journey

Heart of the Columbia Gorge, in Mid Gorge; Landscape by John Christopher

A dramatic set of early Spring clouds highlights the way West through the majestic Columbia Gorge. A shallow wetland in the foreground reflects the patterns above, while hinting at the change of seasons that is already under way.

This vista is probably not much different from what the settlers migrating on the Oregon trail would have seen in the early to mid 1800s.

The Northern cliffs of Oregon frame this picture on the left while Washington State's shoreline and Beacon Rock anchor the right half of the scene.
